This one was a no-brainer. “Can you guys come in and shoot some plates of hands on an iPad against green for a Pepsi project?” - “Of course we can!” Shot inside an 8x8 meeting room, we hung a green screen and carefully lit it so that the subject and the ipad can be placed only a few inches apart. Normally we’d want to have a lot more separation, but them's are the breaks.
The first trial was to use a green screen app on the ipad, Chromakey. It’s a pretty cool app that essentially turns your screen any number of chroma colors or special patterns. While the app works for full screen replacement, as soon as you move a hand in front of the screen, depending on the brightness, there’s a ton of spill. So out went that idea. Instead we decided to use the more traditional method of mounting a piece of chroma green paper to the screen. Just to make sure we got everything clean, we also shot clean plates of fingers moving on green and the device by itself on green.
We had a great time working with Oraganic. Everyone was super nice and very well prepared. This project was a perfect example of how simple an insert shoot can be with proper planning, a talented creative team, and a nice relaxing environment. Organic's editors did a fantastic job of stitching it all together and the final video looks great.
